Boone County Golf Course to Honor Former Superintendent Jerry Coldiron

The Boone County Golf Course will honor former Superintendent Jerry Coldiron with the dedication oJerry Coldiron Memorial Photof a memorial on November 16, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the Lassing Pointe Golf Course Turf Center, 2266 Double Eagle Drive in Union, Kentucky. Jerry was a 1979 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Horticulture and Turfgrass Management prior to beginning his 27 year career with Boone County. Mr. Coldiron was the very first credentialed superintendent to oversee the golf courses in Boone County and utilized his knowledge and experience to create a high standard and outstanding product at both Boone Links and Lassing Pointe Golf Courses.  During his tenure with Boone County, Jerry also served as President of the Greater Cincinnati Superintendents Association of America, as well as, President of the Kentucky Turfgrass Council. He was honored for his achievements by being named Eastern Kentucky University’s Horticulture Alumnus of the Year in 1988 and gave back to the community by teaching Turfgrass Management at Cincinnati State. Mr. Coldiron passed away in November of 2017.

In honor of his achievements and contributions to the Golf Courses in Boone County, Jerry Coldiron will be memorialized and celebrated in a ceremony that will dedicate a permanent bench and garden overlooking the 14 tee box just outside the Turf Center at Lassing Pointe for which he had great pride and where he worked for many years. “Jerry left a positive legacy at our County Golf Courses and his talents, skills and relationships will long be reflected in the high quality golf product he established. This is a fitting tribute for his positive contributions to Boone County,” said Judge/Executive Gary Moore.

 The community is invited to join the family, friends and colleagues of Jerry Coldiron in remembering his significant impact on the golf course, golf community and Boone County. No RSVP is required.
