BOONE COUNTY RECOGNIZED AS STORMREADY

The National Weather Service Office in Wilmington, Ohio first recognized Boone County, including the cities of Florence, Union and Walton as StormReady in 2002.  Renewals have been earned every three years since.  The most recent renewal was in 2020 and extended the designation through 2023.

StormReady is a program sponsored by the National Weather Service to recognize communities that have taken steps to strengthen severe weather emergency mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery capabilities.

StormReady helps communities develop the abilities needed to save lives and property before and during a severe weather event.  According to the National Weather Service, StormReady communities are better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through better planning, education, and awareness. No community is storm proof, but StormReady can help communities save lives.
