BCYC Accepting Applications, New Hangar Opens at CVG: What's Happening in Your Boone County

It’s been another great week in Your Boone County. Find out what’s happening!

Last Chance: Rising Juniors - Apply to Boone County Youth Cabinet
Boone County Youth Cabinet is a unique leadership experience where you'll get a front-row seat to how local government works. The nine-month program brings together students during their junior year in high school to meet with and learn from local leaders and elected officials.

Topics include:

  • How the Sheriff's Department keeps us safe (and tour the Boone County jail).
  • Our county's judicial system and the programs and resources available to those navigating it.
  • How state government functions, including a trip to Frankfort to tour the state capitol and meet with our state legislators.
  • You'll also participate in a hands-on volunteer opportunity that provides you with real-world civic engagement experience.

Apply today. The deadline is Monday, April 1.

Eligible applicants must be:

  • Rising juniors (preparing to enter 11th grade for the 2024-25 school year).
  • Boone County residents.

Applicants do not have to go to a Boone County school.

Public Hearing Scheduled for Comprehensive Plan Goals & Objectives

On Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m., the Boone County Planning Commission is holding a public hearing to present the draft Goals and Objectives for the Boone County Comprehensive Plan, Our Boone County – Plan 2045. The public is encouraged to attend to learn more about the suggested goals and objectives and provide comments and input.

The meeting will be held in the Boone County Fiscal Courtroom, Boone County Administration Building (2950 Washington Street, Burlington). You can learn more about the hearing and Our Boone County – Plan 2045 on the Planning Commission’s website.

The public can also comment direction on the suggested Goals and Objectives online.

FEAM Aero Maintenance Hangar Opens at CVG
Boone County officials were on hand to celebrate the opening of the new FEAM Aero maintenance hangar at CVG. The hangar is the company’s second at CVG and is 150,000 square feet. Three bays allow aircraft maintenance crews to work on three widebody airplanes at the same time, including Boeing 777, 767, and 747s. The new space is expected to create 250 full-time jobs.

Fiscal Court Meeting: Tuesday, April 2 at 8:30 a.m.
The next meeting of the Boone County Fiscal Court will be on Tuesday, April 2 at 8:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend in person (Boone County Administration Building, 2950 Washington Street, Burlington), or watch from home:

This week’s agenda includes:

  • An ordinance that would allow alcohol sales in limited circumstances at certain County parks.
  • Resolutions relating to bids on several items, including County vehicles and a cooling tower for the Administration Building.
  • A resolution to declare County vehicles and assets as surplus. (View current surplus inventory.)
  • A resolution to approve the Northern Kentucky Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2024. The plan was presented at the last Fiscal Court meeting.

Seniors in Boone County are welcome (and encouraged) to stop by one of three senior centers and receive a free, hot meal. Congregate meals are a great way to enjoy other people’s company and receive a healthy, balanced lunch.

If you’re over the age of 60 and interested in receiving a free, hot meal, please call your local senior center at least 48 hours in advance.
